Hotel Vendome installs electric lighting.

The hotel becomes the first building fully lit by electric lights in the U.S. The installation of incandescent lamps is supervised and the lighting ceremony is attended by Thomas Edison, who first publicly demonstrated such lamps in Menlo Park, New Jersey on January 1, 1897.
